Reducing our Carbon Footprint
The biggest long term challenge facing business today is not the economic climate. It’s something much more fundamental: climate change.
At RCS we have committed to producing the smallest carbon footprint we can and to operate in an environmentally friendly way.
As one of the steps along the way, in 2003 we were awarded the coveted ISO14001 Environment Management Systems award.
We strive to ensure every aspect of our supply chain meets with the demanding requirements of our environmental policy.
- All our ink is based on clean vegetable oil and supplied in eco friendly packaging.
- On site mixing technology allows us to produce colours to pin point accuracy with close to zero waste.
- All our paper is processed using Elemental Chlorine Free technology to avoid the production of damaging toxins.
In 2009 we were accredited by both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
These exacting standards mean that the system of recording, tracking and reporting of all pulp-based products within RCS is controlled and monitored. The majority of the stock grades we use are FSC certified which is seen in the industry as the gold standard for the responsible husbandry of forests.
Certification means that many more trees are planted than are felled each year by the foresters supplying our Paper Mills. Indeed each year, our suppliers plant many thousands of extra trees on our behalf. Our 2010 Catalogue will clearly detail the FSC or PEFC status of all our papers and boards.

For our Reseller Partners this means that, when asked, we will be able to add the FSC and PEFC logos to work we print on their behalf.
This enables you to satisfy the requirements of virtually all clients without the considerable expense and time involved in obtaining certification yourself.
Our commitment to the environment is just as much in evidence when it comes to our use of electricity. We have implemented a number of energy saving solutions, from lights that turn themselves off when the sun shines, to motors which run up to 70% more efficiently.
We predominantly power our plant with ‘Green Electricity’ which comes from renewable sources, whilst our efficient use of materials ensures that our centralised operation is intrinsically ‘greener’ than lots of smaller plants.
Our recycling is of an exceptionally high order and everything we are unable to use is graded into a range of different categories and recycled or disposed of responsibly.
By partnering with RCS our Resellers have the satisfaction of knowing that their print is as ‘Green’ as possible – a benefit that will increasingly become as important to their customers as it is to them.
